Eat to live or live to eat? Pt.2

I found out the hard way today that you can run into all sorts of issues when I attempted to "live to eat". Don't get me wrong, I love food. However, the old saying "everything in moderation" runs so true!

Ones love of food should never cloud your judgement when attempting to finish that last bit of dark chocolate gelato on the plate or the last slice of medium rare Wagyu beef with a side of greek salad.

If we eat to live, there is no problem; but once we live to eat then that’s when the problem starts. You see, the issue of eating is not a major issue for living beings if they know how to do it in moderation. Eating becomes a way of replenishing our body to enable us to stay alive.

However, in reality, we produce food and promote it to be comsumed for pleasure. This creates a disturbance to the balance of our mind and body. The more we eat, the more disturbances are caused.

As the Buddha once said,"if you eat for pleasure you will suffer much"...and boy, how suffer much did I!!!

Chopsticks - to use or not to use?

The answer to the question?
Yes, when your in a chinese or korean restaurant but a big NO - NO when eating Thai. Except, when tucking into a luscious Laksa or other hearty noodle dish. If you're eating rice, please use the forks and spoons provided.
Why, you may ask?
Well, in Thailand, the use of chopsticks is frowned upon and considered bad ettiquette unless eating noodle dishes. So, next time you're in downtown Bangkok, don't ask for chopsticks unless it is offered. Otherwise you may get surprising looks from the locals around you.

Food = Eat = Live?

Its interesting to watch people eat. I know that not many of us like to admit it but watching those around you consume food makes for good entertainment as well as being quite enlightening.
Does how you eat tell a lot about who you are?
From their posture, their body language at the table, the way a person holds their cutlery, all portrays just how a person views their own attitudes towards food and ultimately their own life.

I know this sounds deep but think about it. Food = Life. With (prolonged) abscence of food, we wither. Food is a basic necessity. So naturally, we should consider the very act of us eating correlates directly to the way we feel about our own selves, our own lives.

Worth a thought? or to heck with it, just dig in and eat like nobody's watching!
